Resumo

O presente artigo tem como objectivo refletir sobre o uso da fotografia enquanto instrumento de investigação. A partir de uma fotografia de família a autora propõe-se reconstituir, com recurso à memória, o imaginário social dos seus personagens e entender a sua ligação a outros espaços. A emigração surge assim como uma constante estrutural incontornável que atravessa as gerações de ilhéus, contribuindo para importantes transformações na paisagem urbana e social das ilhas. A dupla pertença, a moblidade espacial, a alteração dos traços arquitectónicos tradicionais são disso exemplos.

Abstract:
The present article has the objective of reflecting about the use of photography as an investigation tool. Departing from a family portrait, the author proposes a reconstitution resorting to her memory, the social imaginary of its subjects, in order to understand her connections to other realities. Immigration thus appears as a constant and unavoidable structure going through generations of islanders contributing for important transformations in the urban social landscape of the islands. The double belonging, space mobility and the alteration of the traditional architectural traits are examples to consider.
